New 'urban treehouse' patio bar with downtown views hits The Heights

The patio bar trend shows no signs of slowing down. Inspired by the success of bars like Kirby Ice House and Axelrad Beer Garden, even veteran operators are stepping up to put their spin on the format.

Lonnie Schiller, the co-founder of concepts including Cafe Annie, Cafe Express, and The Grove, has partnered with his son-in-law, energy trader Brendan Murphy, to open Patterson Park. The sprawling venue will feature an indoor-outdoor space, a large patio, and a second-story deck with a view of the downtown skyline.

Get ready to drink on 5,000 square feet of outdoor space, by Tierney Plumb

Patterson Park’s expansive 5,000-square-foot outdoor patio, overlooking the scenic tree-lined bayou, will set the scene for a laid-back drinking experience that calls for draft cocktails and local brews. On the food front, Patterson Park will swap a kitchen for a rolling cast of “the city’s best food trucks,” lining up outside. Inside, exposed wood beams and skylights will help create a campy atmosphere.
